AIS hosts Australia's top archers ahead of World Championships

26 July 2023

The AIS has hosted the Australian Archery Recurve team as they prepare for the 2023 World Archery Championships.

The four-day camp saw two-time Olympian Ryan Tyack, Australian Open Champion Peter Boukouvalas and Youth Olympian Laura Paeglis use the AIS facilities for their final training camp before heading to Germany.

National Assistant Archery Coach and dual-Olympian Alice Ingley said the focus of the camp was working through team dynamics, team rotations and just getting prepared for the World Championships.

Peagils added: "It's really good for us to all get together and be in one place, which is why this facility so awesome, because we can get help from our national coach, and we can shoot in a facility that allows us to train in various conditions,”

The World Championships are the first stop in a long schedule of international competitions coming up for our archers with one year to go until the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"We're about to go overseas for the World Championships and a World Cup and from there, we have to qualify for our national trial, assuming that we have secured a quota spot from the Pacific Games as well,” Tyack said.

“From there, we'll take our team on the international circuit next year to try and win positions for the team at the Olympics.”

Archery Australia is one of 32 sports to benefit from an additional $20 million to support athletes ahead of next year’s Games with the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Preparation Fund assisting national sporting organisations travel to and compete at critical qualification events.

The 2023 World Archery Championships will be in Berlin, Germany from 31 July to 6 August. Follow the Aussie Archery team’s World Championship results.
