Athletes spring into action at the AIS Campus

20 October 2023

The AIS Campus in Canberra has been a hive of activity through October, with 10 high performance camps across archery, athletics, boxing, netball, snow sports, softball and volleyball on site.

In September, almost 500 athletes, coaches and support staff came to the AIS across 17 camps for 13 different sports.

Activities undertaken included VO2 max testing, pitching analysis, pre departure travel and physical preparation education, standardising national testing protocols, Clearsky tracking data, refuelling strategies and optimisation for training and recovery strategies.

Ahead of its return as an Olympic sport in 2028, Baseball Australia held a camp which brought 40 teenage athletes and 10 staff together for a camp that included staying on site and training in the AIS facilities as well as at the Canberra Cavalry’s ABL ballpark.

Boccia Australia was on site for its first ever coach development camp which incorporated 40 athletes and staff while Water Polo Australia’s national age group camp brought 80 athletes and staff to Canberra.

It’s not only the athletes spreading across the campus with the public tours attracting 1900 visitors last month, while school group tours attracted more than 10,000 site visits.
