After a stellar performance at the Paris Olympics, rhythmic gymnast Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva is adding another achievement to her resume with the help of the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) Virtual Internship Program.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist placed 22nd in the Women's All-Around event in her Olympic debut, matching Australia’s second-highest result ever at an Olympic Games.
If that’s not impressive enough, Kiroi-Bogatyreva also studies law remotely while living and training overseas.
With applications open for the AIS Virtual Internship Program, Kiroi-Bogatyreva is taking the opportunity to develop her career outside of sport and pursue her passion for law.
“I wanted to expand my horizons, and I believe the Virtual Internship Program offers promising career prospects,” Kiroi-Bogatyreva said.
“I am super excited about anything relating to sport, sports law, law, safeguarding and integrity, and hopefully, I can make changes for the better.”
The program connects athletes with work experience opportunities across 18 career fields offered by companies all around the world.
Internships are designed to be completed remotely, with personalised support and coaching available to help athletes manage their workloads around sporting commitments – a factor particularly important to Kiroi-Bogatyreva as she continues her gymnastics career.
“To be able to find programs that adjust to your specific needs as an athlete is rare. By allowing athletes to focus on sport, work and study, whilst also gaining invaluable experience, it prepares us for the ‘real’ world outside of our daily zone,” she said.
If you are interested in joining the AIS Virtual Internship Program, submit an application here or email career_and_education@ausport.gov.au to find out more.
Categorised athletes and alumni athletes are encouraged to apply. Applications close at 5pm on Wednesday 6 November 2024.
