AIS European Training Centre

A ‘home away from home’ for Australian Sport

A ‘home away from home’ for Australian Sport

The AIS European Training Centre aims to replicate the training environment of the AIS in Australia, providing athletes with a ‘home away from home’ in Europe.

Located in Northern Italy, the centre provides Australian high performance and professional athletes with accommodation, training venues, sports science and sports medicine capabilities and access to the best facilities in the region, all within close proximity to the vast competition opportunities that Europe offers.

The AIS European Training Centre is now also open to invited international sporting teams from Europe and other parts of the world.

As part of Australia’s national lead high performance sports agency, the AIS European Training Centre is helping to deliver Australia’s international sporting success.

Living on the lake and having the gym, dining hall, and support services makes it’s a great place to come and train. You can live and breathe sport, whichever that may be” – Curtis McGrath OAM, Paracanoe

"The perfect place to regroup during a long season on the road. A home away from home” - Laura Peel, Aerial Ski

This camp has been perfect for what we are trying to achieve, the ETC has provided everything and more” – Tim Walsh MBA GAICD, Head Coach of the Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens

The AIS European Training Centre is located in the town of Gavirate in the province of Varese, Italy. The Centre provides support to a range of Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth sports including: archery, athletics, basketball, wheelchair basketball, canoeing, cycling, football, golf, kayaking, rowing, rugby, wheelchair rugby, sailing, tennis, wheelchair tennis, triathlon, volleyball, and winter sports. The province also has facilities available for many other sports such as boxing, gliding, ice hockey, shooting, swimming, and table tennis.

This is a huge boost for Australian sport as, historically, the vast distance between Australia and Europe and the expense of travel and accommodation has been a barrier to European training and competition.
